I started using heroin at the age of 25 years old. At the age of 17 I took reds, whites, yellow jackets, LSD, mescaline, and drank, but my drug of choice was heroin.
I loved the way it made me feel. I couldn't deal with life on terms. The only time I wasn't using was when I was in jail. I would get out and start all over again.
I supported my own habit, I've always worked and held my jobs. As I got older, in my late 30's, I did petty thefts & priors, sentenced 16 months to C.R.C. Prison. I also went to C.I.W. Chowchilla when it first opened up, I was there.
They say you have to be sick and tired of your old lifestyle. I was homeless, tired, and depressed. I am here to tell you that recovery is possible.
I turned myself in too detox two weeks then went to the Salvation Army two months.
I needed more recovery. I called up Bethel House and they sent me an application. May 21, 2009, I entered the program for one year. I was accepted. I got a sponsor and worked my 12-steps. I attended my meetings and went to church.
I graduated in March 2010. I have been clean now for one year and three months. I am moving forward in my life.
I volunteer my time at the local shelter.
